Wrapped Up

“Wrapped Up” is the final poem in Caitlin’s three-part series about mental health for The MindReset blog. Please join us in appreciating her vulnerable and important perspective.

I wrap my thoughts around me,

tight like the noose,

and hope they will protect me;

instead they devour my will.

Once more I feel alone

and all there is around me: words.

Tangled in my chest

and wrapped around my throat.

Strangled are my cries for help.

Each word: adds to the rope.

I let them out and soon I’m empty

relief would come, if there were hope.

Wrestling with my own sick thoughts,

failing to find its end,

misery fills me up:

step off the side where there’s peace.
