Why We Vote

A record-breaking number of Americans have already voted during this year’s mid-term elections! A few members from The MindReset Community share their reasons for why they feel it is important to vote.

Why We Vote

“As a queer woman, participating in our democracy by voting is very important to me. If I don’t vote, I become complicit in the election of officials whose stance I do not necessarily agree with, and in many cases vehemently oppose. With the tragic hate crimes that have happened just this week and the current administration’s attack on transgender rights, it is more important than ever to come together as a nation as make it clear that the America that we love does not stand for hate.”

“I vote because it is an action I can take to influence my communities for the better through laws and regulations. I understand how our political leaders set the tone for our nation’s social and economic infrastructure. I believe it is important to have leaders who are able to make sound decisions that advance both aspects mutually, not exclusively. It is a privilege to have a say in who our future leaders could be and how their leadership might impact the lives of myself and those around me.”

“I vote because the conditions of my birth left me a marginalized group in a world that demands respect but never gives it back. I vote because the alternative is the nightmare we live in today. I vote because it’s the one way my voice can be heard without being shut down. I vote not because I can, but because I must.”

“While I have had the right to vote since turning 18, this is not true for millions of women. I vote to celebrate the almost-100 years since passing the 19th amendment, and to make sure female voices continue to be heard. My vote, even if it is not the popular vote, still lets my community know of differences in opinion. I vote to express my hopes for policy change and to give women a chance to experience change that works for them.”

Additionally, TMR members Jing and Dris also recorded a video about why they vote. You can find the video on YouTube or Facebook.
