The Fall

Throughout my life writing has helped me process my depression, anxiety, and PTSD. This poem, for me, represents the addiction of something destructive; from thoughts to behaviors.

I close my eyes

and step off the edge of safety.

For one moment I float,

then, I fall.

The sudden stop will come,

but will the regret slam into the body?

A hope that it won’t is clung to.

In the meantime: focus on the rush.

Life whips my hair around

and fills up my lungs.

But this breath feels nervous;

I keep breathing deep.

Take it all in,

open those eyes,

or else this view, good or bad,

will forever pass you by.
