Control

Faced with my reflection I frown,
I take a second look and look down,
“Sides could use some work…matter of fact the rest too”,
“Eat some more greens!” exclaims my mom on cue.
I close the door and do a one eighty,
I’m seriously starting to look a bit weighty.
So I’ll try a new diet,
But I won’t tell a soul,
i’ll keep quiet.
It will take a few days to break my will,
For self control is not a skill,
that I will ever proclaim.
So I try working out,
“I can do it, no doubt!”
But in fact I cannot,
for that will end quicker than a quick thought.
What is the endgame?
What will make me end this body shame?
Lifestyle changes and a “Mind Reset”,
A shift in perspective to escape this net,
Of catch-all body types that is exclusive of mine,
A self-concept of my own design,
one that I define.
